U3: Expanding DC Solar Systems with MPPT, U4: AC System Fundamentals
U3: Expanding DC Solar Systems with MPPT, U4: AC System Fundamentals
Duration: 4 weeks- 30 hours online asynchronous
Prerequisites: U1, U2
Price : $249 USD - Subsidized Cost
This training provides students an opportunity to build upon the skills developed in the U1 and U2 classes and explore larger, more complex solar PV systems. The class will cover series and parallel PV wiring, more advanced battery topics, and the use of Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) charge controllers. It will also introduce inverters and AC wiring considerations.
This class includes 4 Live Zoom sessions (optional for students) to review course materials with Remote Energy Instructors!
Topics Include:
PV System combiner box selection and wiring
Series and parallel connections for PV modules and battery banks
Advanced considerations of working with lead-acid and lithium batteries
Lead-acid battery maintenance procedures and use of hydrometers and refractometer
Load analysis to account for energy needs, storage needs, and production needs
Introduction of MPPT charge controllers and comparison to PWM controllers from U2
MPPT controller physical properties and electrical properties
System maintenance concerns and processes
The basics of alternating current (AC)
Power factor and other advanced AC electrical concepts and considerations
Inverter types and functions
Electrical and physical characteristics of inverters
Matching inverters to loads
Reading electrical schematics
Inverter wiring and AC circuit wiring
