Changing the Face of the Solar Industry

This #International Women’s Day, and everyday, Remote Energy is working to change the face of the solar industry! #BreaktheBias

Remote Energy’s flagship  Global Solar Women's Program is designed by and for professional women trainers and educators.  We equip women with marketable technical solar skills,  practical installation experience, and an inspiring peer community to advance their growth in the solar PV green economy movement.   This matters because, despite sporadic fragmented solar initiatives for women in the last decade, the fast-growing solar installation field remains extremely male-dominated. According to the International Renewable Energy Agency, women form only 28% of the technical workforce in the renewable energy field. IRENA recognizes that one of the main barriers for women in Solar PV is the lack of skills and gender-specific training opportunities. This is exactly the challenge that  Remote Energy addresses so that more women can confidently claim our local, regional, global opportunities in over 18 million solar energy jobs expected by 2050.

Remote Energy’s innovative Global Solar Women program is for women, taught by women. The program focuses on solar upskilling training for Climate Solutions in the world. Our professional female instructors have been teaching women-only solar electric classes for over 20 years. Through close collaboration and co-design with indigenous and global majority women leaders, we not only transfer and deepen valuable solar skills but also break down the barriers and stereotypes that prevent women from accessing technical education and job opportunities within their communities. We address soft skills development, tool use and acquisition, entrepreneur skills, and job placement. These, combined with a conducive learning environment and role models have a transformational impact on women’s participation in cleantech. We have partnered with organizations worldwide to develop and implement customized training programs that are student-focused.  Through our intersectional approach, investing in women in solar creates a ripple effect of benefits across multiple Sustainable UN Sustainable Development goals spanning poverty reduction ( SDG1), Quality Education ( SDG 4),   Gender Equality ( SDG 5), Affordable and Clean Energy ( SDG 7),  Decent Work and Economic Growth ( SDG 8), Climate Action  ( SDG 13) , and Partnerships for the Goals ( SDG 17).
